My 2014 beauty favourites

Here are my 2014 beauty favourites - sorry I'm a bit late to the party, but better late than never, right? First things first (I'm a realist) haha no really, this year was the year I stopped using face wipes to take off my make up! What a revelation for my skin. Micellar water is the best thing to happen to my face, I love using it with big cotton wool pads, it makes my skin feel so refreshed, you can't really beat it! I always use Garnier.

Next, I discovered Liz Earle's Cleanse & Polish, which is SO good. Makes my skin feel absolutely amazing and gets rid of my spots in no time, I really want to invest in the proper version as this is just a sample. This year was also the year I bought Snow Fairy from LUSH, and it smells amazing, if you like sweet things then you'll absolutely love it. I bought the big version as soon as it came out again, and Mum got me this mini version for Christmas.

I bought the Naked 3 palette on Boxing Day of 2013, and have used it no end throughout 2014, it's definitely my favourite eyeshadow palette - and I own quite a few now. I think it's because I'm always wearing pink, so the pink-tones always go with everything, but I wear it practically all the time. I use it for everyday use, and also when I go out, it's so versatile and such a good purchase.

Next, foundation and concealer, and I bet you can already guess which I'm going to choose. Wake Me Up by Rimmel is the foundation I always find myself going back to repeatedly, I have tried new ones this year such as True Match and Match Perfection, but I used this for the majority which is why it's in my favourites. I really like it during the Spring months too as it's quite dewy so looks pretty when it gets warmer. Obviously Collection 2000's Lasting Perfection concealer made the cut - I go through tons of this stuff, couldn't live without it.

Brushes! I got the Real Techniques sponge for Christmas so not technically a 2014 favourite but it's my favourite one of the year so thought I'd include it. This other stippling brush which looks a lot like Real Techniques is actually only from Wilko's and is about £4! It's really good at applying foundation, they also have a few more in the collection at reasonable prices so I'd recommend checking them out!

Face products - I bought MAC's Mineralize Skin Finish in Soft and Gentle earlier on in the year and I'm still so obsessed. I wear it every single day, I love it, I love the look it gives, definitely worth the money. Next is Warm Soul blush by MAC, I actually got this for a bit cheaper, but I love the finish of it, I'm pretty sure it would suit any skin tone. Next blusher is the Natural Collection blushers, this one's peach melba. So cheap, but such good pigmentation, such a good selection of colours as well!

Eyeliner - it has to be the Collection Fast Stroke liner. This is the one I've used throughout the year and repeatedly rebought - I just love the way it looks and it's so easy to apply.

Lipsticks - first up, MAC's Snob; my Mum bought this back for me from Las Vegas in Summer and I wore it SO much. It's such a lovely blue toned pink which again, I think would suit so many skintones, I absolutely love it. Next is MAC's Velvet Teddy, which I have only purchased recently but is one of my absolute favourites.

Lipliners - the colorsensational lipliners by Maybelline. So creamy, and so easy to apply, as you can see I've used my velvet beige one no end as it gives off the perfect Kylie Jenner lip, I recently bought the burgundy one but it's just as good!

Two more lipsticks, these are my classic Kylie Jenner lips (it's been my favourite look throughout 2014 sorry I've mentioned it twice). My friend got me the Chanel one for my 19th birthday, and although it doesn't look much different to the KIKO one, they really are, although I guess the KIKO one is a good dupe!. I've worn them both so much and absolutely love them!

So there you have it! My 2014 beauty favourites, do let me know what you've been loving or if we've been loving any of the same items, I love reading these kinds of posts! Thanks for reading.

Hell to the YES. I finally got my hands on the much raved about Velvet Teddy by MAC. This is the colour everyone rushed to get as soon as Kylie Jenner lips came into fashion, and has been sold out in every single MAC store I've visited ever since. As you can imagine, as soon as this bad boy came back in stock online (and with free delivery too) I rushed to order it! I am so so so glad I did, it's quickly become my go-to lipstick. I think it would suit so many different skin tones, and I love the way it looks different on different people - on some people it comes up more orange, and on others more pink; my sister bought it at the same time as me and it looks so different on both of us. In the pictures below I paired the lipstick with Maybelline's Color Sensational Lipliner in Velvet Beige (get ready for selfie central, any excuse right?)

Of course I had to get my nails in the picture... They rarely look this good, and they matched! How could I not?

Roll Neck Jumper - New Look

I would 100% recommend this lipstick to anyone, it's so long lasting too, the matte finish is really on trend. If like me you've struggled to find it in stores, definitely have a look online! £15.50 is a bit steep for a lipstick I'll agree, but I rarely spend that much, and it's definitely an investment as I wear it pretty much all the time!

I just had to write this blogpost after I bought this beautiful palette from the Revolution counter in Superdrug. It's the 'flawless' palette, and is only £8, for such a good price the pigmentation is unbelievable. It's such a good palette for winter, as the colours match everything I wear during this season. The burgundy colours at the bottom of the palette remind me a lot of MAC's Cranberry, a dupe for the fraction of the price! I've just been loving this recently and been using it practically everyday, I wore the burgundy shades on a night out last week and here's a few photos of what it looked like (sorry they're bad quality, I was literally at pre-drinks when I took the photos).

This palette is unbelievable for £8, and would make an amazing Christmas present (or even just a treat for yourself which is what I did). Revolution have some amazing palettes in at the minute, they are definitely worth checking out!

revolution palette and leeds outfit day one

This weekend I went to Leeds festival (which was amazing) (blogpost coming soon) but before I went I bought this REVOLUTION eye palette from Superdrug for £4, I just wanted a bright colour eye palette so I could experiment with different looks whilst I was at the festival because I love festival fashion and make up. I didn't expect much from this palette but wow. It's incredible, it reminds me of the Urban Decay Electric palette but at a fraction of the price, the pigmentation is amazing and there's such a wide range of colours. I also used it on a night out as well as at the festival and got lots of compliments!

My favourite colours out of the palette are the pinks, purples and orange, but I can't wait to experiment some more with the blues as well!

Bandana - India's
Dress - Mum's
Undertop - H&M
Skirt - Boohoo
Wellies - Matalan
Raincoat - New Look
Bumbag - New Look

Here's what I wore on the first day of the festival on the way, I think it looks very festival-like especially with the bright make up. Most of this outfit is actually borrowed from my sisters and mum, but I thought this dress looked really good as it has floral detailing along the sides and bottom (but it's really see-through so I had to wear a skirt and undertop underneath). This mac I bought from New Look for £17.99 and I'm so glad I did as I wore it practically all weekend and was really waterproof and served me well. This bumbag is also from New Look and was definitely my festival essential as I wore it every single day and it's so easy to take around with you, and it also keeps your belongings more safe I think! This bandana is definitely a festival essential, everyone at Leeds was wearing one, even the boys!

Ah, the Revlon Color Bursts that everyone's been talking about. I decided to go for the matte ones rather than glossy as I personally prefer them, but I will definitely be trying those as well soon seeing as these ones are so good! I snapped mine up when Boots had 3 for 2 on, and so I got all three of these for £15.98, which is just a bit more than a MAC lipstick! (Speaking of MAC, a few years ago my friend got me a voucher for there for my birthday and I lost it, this week my Mum found it and it hasn't expired, result! If you have any recommendations what I should buy then let me know in the comments!) Anyway, back on to the point, I love these colorburst's, I've never tried lip crayons before but these are so easy to applicate, they don't run out quickly, they stay on all night, and they taste like spearmint when you first put them on! I thought I'd swatch the ones I already have and show you what they look like on as well, I'm in love with all of them and think they'll be perfect for Summer! I can't wait to buy more, which are your favourites from the collection?

A bright pink colour. I went a bit out of my comfort zone when picking this colour up, but I wanted to make the most of Boots 3 for 2 and thought why not go for a bright lip. I really love the colour, it has blue undertones, and I think it suits me surprisingly well considering I'm pretty pale. I think this colour will look lovely in Summer.

A bright orange, peach colour. I picked this one up because I love wearing peachy colours on my lips in Summer, they go with most things I wear. Again, it's a bit brighter than what I'd usually choose but also would be lovely in Summer, and I think it would suit most skin tones.

A dusty pink colour. The name of this just reminds me of Lianne La Havas (if you haven't heard 'Elusive' by her then go and listen here, you won't regret it) so I love it even more because I love her! I've been wearing this colour the most out of all of them, I think that's because it goes with the most, and I'll probably wear the other two more when it gets warmer. I've also heard that this colour is actually the best selling which doesn't surprise me. I really like it, it's relatively subtle and is a lovely shade of pink. If you're going to buy any of these, make it this one!

golden bronze smokey eye

If you want to know how to make your eyes look like this, then just carry on reading.

I like to moisturise first, and then go straight in with your foundation. I'm currently using the NO7 Stay Perfect Foundation which is really good, and I blend that in with the Real Techniques buffing brush. Next, concealer, and I use the collection 2000 lasting perfection (which is the concealer everyone raves about) and I blend that in with the Real Techniques contouring brush.

Then I go straight onto the eyes, I use the naked2 palette for the start of this but I've also included my MUA palette as it's a much cheaper alternative (it's only £4!) and I love it too! Firstly I make a base by smearing 'tease' from naked2 all over the eye, I then put 'half-baked' on top, all over the lid, the second shade in on the naked palette. I then go onto my MUA palette, and use the fourth colour in; 'fiery', for the outer corners of my eyes and then I blend that altogether using the naked2 brush. Pretty quick and simple, when I want more definition I use the darker brown colours on the outer corners too.

Alternatively: if you don't own naked2, use the MUA palette shade 'devotion' (second one in) all over the lid, then use 'fiery' again for definition on the outer corners. I also use the first and third shades as highlighters under the browbone! This palette is such a good alternative to naked2, the neutral colours are super easy to use, so definitely buy it if you haven't already!

Then go in with your eyeliner, the one I use is the Primark felt tip liner, but it's so good and easy to use, only £1.50 as well! Then mascara, 'they're real' by Benefit is my absolute favourite but just use whichever is yours. Then on to eyebrows - I don't do a lot to mine, I use this pencil from Rimmel to shape them and brush them into shape.

Lastly, blusher and contouring. I use this sleek palette (which is amazing) and my Real Techniques contour brush.

Voila! The finished look!
Hope you enjoyed and can try and recreate it, if you do then tweet me a picture @omgharlz, or tag me on instagram! @harlzzwild

October Beauty Favourites ♡

I know it's a bit late for an October beauty favourites but I thought I'd do a belated one anyway as I can't wait until the end of November to show you these!

1) Kate Moss Lipstick Shade 03
I'd been looking for a nude lipstick for a while as I didn't actually own any before I bought this one, and I saw Tanya Burr raving about this one in one of her video's so thought I'd buy it and try it for myself. Wow. I absolutely love it, it goes with any outfit as it's so neutral, it's not too pink; it has elements of brown in which I really like as pink lipsticks don't tend to suit me normally. I just love the Kate Moss collection of lipsticks at Rimmel, this is definitely one of my favourites!

2) Naked Palette 2
I only got this about a month ago for my birthday, and I wasn't really sure how to use it when I first got it. It took me a while to get used to the colours, and I did look up a few tutorials on Youtube before attempting any looks but now I absolutely love it and use it everyday. I can't believe I didn't get one sooner! The colours are good for daytime or evening, my favourites at the minute are 'chopper', 'snakebite', 'tease' and 'suspect', shown in the last photo. I might do another blogpost soon of my everyday autumnal make up with this pallette, let me know if you'd like to see that!

3) Real Techniques Buffing Brush
I know everyone on Youtube raves about this so I won't go on about it, but again I received the Real Techniques Core Collection for my birthday, and this is definitely my favourite brush. I never used make up brushes before, I applied my foundation with my hands but this brush gives such an amazing finish and is just so easy to use, I can see why everyone loves it. I also adore the blusher brush that comes in the collection (I use that for my concealer)

4) Primark Eyeliner Pen
I'm constantly on the lookout for a new eyeliner - at first I used the gel liner from Maybelline, I loved it but found the brush quite difficult to use, the gel liner itself is really good, perhaps it's just that my eyeliner skills are rubbish. Anyway, then I tried the Collection felt tip liner which is around £3, and I found this a lot easier to apply so I bought this repeatedly (it seemed to run out very quickly). Then I spotted this eyeliner in Primark and thought I'd give it a try. It's even better than the Collection one in my opinion, and is even cheaper - only £1.50. I've been absolutely loving it and would definitely recommend trying it.

5) Colour Tattoo's in Pomegranate and On and On Bronze
Again, I'd seen many people on Youtube rave about these. I'd seen velvetgh0st rave about On and On Bronze, and Zoella recommended Metallic Pomegranate - so I just had to try them. They're amazing, and work really well as a base, sort of like a Mac paint pot (but a LOT cheaper), they also look really good on their own. As you can see from the swatches they both have amazing pigmentation. Pomegranate is lovely for Autumn, I love wearing berry colours and I match it with dark brown eyeshadows for a smokey eye look. On and On Bronze is what I've been wearing every single day along with lighter browns for an everyday look. I just love both of them and would definitely consider buying more.

Those are my October beauty favourites! What have you been loving recently? Any Autumnal recommendations? Let me know in the comments!
